In the world we live, we will also die. This is the creed of the Mafia, said to manifest in history's oldest family—Vongola. They are the strongest famglia in existence, as well as the leaders of the Italian mafia world. The Vongola have gone unchallenged for decades, throughout ten complete generations.[/blockquote]
The tenth—under the command of Tsunayoshi Sawada—was thought to be the reflection of the Primo and the original six guardians. Despite knowing of generations of bloodshed, he held to his belief that even an enemy should be respected, and would go on to be one of their greatest leaders. Yet, for secret reasons of his own, he stepped down in the past two years, and handed his position to a younger generation. At the same time, an assassination group claiming themselves as Black Savage stepped into the limelight, and—stranger yet—rumors of a girl "with great resemblance to Arissa herself" began to plague the Mafia underworld. Of ghosts of the past and shadowy figures who want to destroy them down to their roots.
Regretfully, a war broke out between the families of Callovone and Bovino as a result of this new threat, and gave way to broken alliances and new truces. Without an acting boss, there was no assistance from the Vongola, and tensions bred among the shattered, beaten remains of both families. The Tenth—once greatly respected—was called a coward who chose to abandon his namesake and fellow families to die in the crossfire.
Supposedly, they have received a letter—nothing more, nothing less—specifying the new heir to the Vongola name. His or her guardians are undecided, and his or her future left to the mercy of fate. Or, perhaps . . . this is simply the grand design of Il'Rosario, whose roots are long since buried . . .
