Gershom isn’t an island in the middle of the Atlantic, and Columbus didn’t just miss it on his route to the Americas. Thanks to many top secret government programs that "don’t exist", the island doesn’t exist either. And neither do the animals that live there.
Before this island, everywhere you looked there was a stray dog or a animal shelter. Dogs and all sorts of animals were euthanized every day, and no-kill shelters and rescues were filled to the brim. The government couldn’t have this. Animal rights activists were begging for more money. Organizations were complaining about the amount of animals being sent to slaughter or being euthanized. Money was being paid to keep all these groups quiet. Altogether: too much money being spent.
The government had to do something. They looked through their files and found Gershom island. An island they had previously planned to build a prison for those "special" prisoners. The ones that the law didn’t pertain to. But the news headlines told them something else was more important. Instead, they decided to use Gershom as a place to exile strays and old, unwanted animals. The large island was still in it's natural state, perfect for the animals.
They then began to pick up the strays, and the castaway animals of every kind. Any animal that would cost taxpayers more money...they're dropped off here by the dozens. Boats dock along the coasts of the dunelands at the southern portion of the island. Sometimes, when the water is too low, they just toss out animals into the water and let them swim or float to shore.
The animals have quickly taken over the island, repopulating quickly as their survival instincts kick in. Now there are new generations being born who have never known life on a human-populated land. Yet others are still being dropped off. For now, the population is still far under the capacity of the island and everyone is content...but eventually, things will change. A small island can only support so many animals before famine and the deathly fights for survival break out.
Here on Lost in Exile, you can roleplay as virtually any animal of your choice. Dogs, horses, cats, or even more uncommon species like buffalo, deer, squirrels, lizards...whatever your heart desires! We consider ourselves an intermediate level site, though we accepted anyone from beginner to advanced. If you are a beginner, we're happy to offer you help to get you on your feet so you can fit in with our growing community.
Check out our plot and decide for yourself. It's a unique twist on wild animal/stray rpgs, but leaves everything pretty open ended for you to choose your own fate. Romance may blossom, wars and fighting may tear up the land, your pack may prosper, or your animal may wander the vast lands alone. Once you fill out your creation form, the rest is up to you!
