Like most children, we grew up with the magical world of Disney fairytales come to life. No? Well perhaps you were partial to the odd Brother's Grimm versions of events? Either way, as children we booed the Wicked Queen; cried when the heroine tasted that last fatal bite from a poisoned apple; giggled at our favourite genie; were left feeling "curioser and curioser" as we were thrust into a topsy-turvy Wonderland where flowers could sing and animals could talk; and most of all, we cheered when the Prince finally sealed the deal with the Princess and they lived happily ever after.
Or so we were led to believe...
Or so we were led to believe...
Allow me to turn the page and introduce you to a new version of events, re-imagined from the old classics for an older audience. Let me bring your attentions to Faraway Island, where things aren't as ordinary as they appear to be at first glance. The inhabitants of the island range from mere mortals, to powerful sorcerors and genies; witches to sea-people; queens to commoners. In a land so diverse and filled with magic and wonderment round every corner, it's unsurprisingly that things can become a little ... shady.
The folk of Faraway, like most communties, have their friends and companions; some even have families. But, even more important than this, they all have their enemies. Each person has a story, the last more dangerous and surreal as the next. Threats loom at every turn and sometimes the "would-be heroes" aren't always the ones we should trust. A dysfunctional fairytale re-told, just how will the story end this time around?
Do you believe in 'happy endings'? Or are we really all mad here?
You decide.
