General Rules

1. Respect everyone on LiE. Not just the administrators or moderators, but all members and guests as well. If you have problems with a certain member, address it with a staff member so we can help you resolve the conflict.

2. Remain active on the site. We'd like to see you making at least one post per week per active character. You should also respond to all activity checks, otherwise your account could be suspended or removed.

3. Don't claim another person's work or ideas as your own. This includes, but is not limited to: names, plots, posts, and images. You may not use a name that belongs to a famous person (whether real or fictional), nor should you use stolen (copyright) art unless you have proof of consent from the artist. This also includes using hotlinked photos/art, EVEN if it is stock images.

3B. Any art displayed should be stock/creative commons artwork in which the owner/creator of that art allows reuse. If you are roleplaying a human, you may not use celebrity photos unless you have consent or the photo is listed as stock or creative commons. Almost all search engines now have an advanced image search where you can check for images that allow free use. Otherwise, you can check out sites like flickr.com and deviantart.com for more free us art/photos.

4. Chat speak is not allowed. Along with that, we expect literate posts. A few spelling errors or typos are okay here and there, but we need to be able to decipher your posts. Essentially, this means good grammar and trying your best to remain free from errors.

5. No discussion of mature or graphic themes, including but not limited to: sexuality, drugs/alcohol, violence, gore, and inappropriate words. If it's not something that should be discussed/said around a 13 year old, don't say it. If you want to include mature themes in your roleplaying, it should still be kept to PG-13, and anything more must be done through PM, with the other person's consent ahead of time.

5B. Mild swearing is allowed, but don't let it get out of hand. If it's in your characters nature to curse a lot, that's okay, but try to keep it within reason. Otherwise, OOC swearing should be kept to an absolute minimum.

6. Seek help when you need it. We don't expect you to blindly stumble around...that's why there are staff members and mods! If you need help beyond what is listed in the rules or plot, just ask. We're here to help you succeed.

7. This shouldn't need said, but from my experience, it's usually necessary to state. Respect the rules. All rules and content that has been published within the rules or anywhere on the site should be considered a "rule". It's your responsibility to follow these guidelines, so please don't complain about the consequences if you fail to do so.

8. When in the c-box, live chat, or anywhere on the site, please try to act mature. Avoid excessive punctuation, excessive capital letters, or any discussion that disrupts the topic at hand.

9. Remember, our staff must do many things with their own two hands. This means that things won't always be done immediately, and mistakes may happen. We appreciate your understanding that we are only human.

10. Rule changes can be made at any time. Everything we do is to try to make the site better, so we won't be doing anything that is going to completely ruin everything, and usually we post polls to get your opinion of any 'major' changes before they happen. Any new rules are listed in red and you will also be notified via PM or admin update post.

Creation/Posting Rules

1. You may have as many characters as you can reasonably manage to keep active. If you know you can't keep very active, please don't create a bunch of characters. Also, don't create gobs of new characters if you haven't replied to other people recently.

1B. All characters should be managed from one account. You do NOT need to make new accounts for each character.

2. When making a character, please follow the form as best you can. If you want to modify it, that's fine, but make sure all the important info is still there.

2B. Please do not post until your character has been accepted. Sometimes we need you to make changes to your character, so it's just easier for everyone if you wait. We're usually pretty quick about it, and if we haven't accepted it, give us a nudge.

3. As you saw from our plot, you can create virtually any type of character here, within reason. We allow any species of animal that is native to North America or Europe. Other types of animals may be purchased once you have earned yourself some Shells.

4. All characters should be realistic to their species. No blue dogs, cats with rainbow eyes, or horses that randomly have leopard spots. We do allow odd colored eyes, however they shouldn't be extreme. (Blue colored eyes on a dog breed that doesn't normally have them, faintly green-tinted eyes, etc.)

5. Once you're accepted, it's time to get posting! We have a minimum of 100 words per post. {pw = nylassi} This is really not all that complicated. Describe the setting, time of day, what your character is thinking about. They can have a flashback, dream, or whatever else you can think of. The only thing that doesn't count into this count is dialogue, because we don't want posts that are entirely conversational.

6. Only first or third person is allowed. If you use anything else we will ask you to change it. Also, once you have selected a point of view for a character, we ask you to stick to it unless you have a really urgent need to change. It's just hard to follow if you change back and forth constantly.

7. No god modding or power playing. This means you can't control the actions of any other character when you are roleplaying. If you ask them ahead of time about something, you can include it, but do not force an outcome of any situation without asking. (Ex: "Doc ran forward and greeted the filly with a whinny, eagerly awaiting her reaction." - Okay. "Doc ran forward and greeted the filly with a whinny, feeling eager as she whinnied back and brought her muzzle up to touch his." - Not okay.)

8. Liquid time is allowed. Keep it reasonable though. You should know how each post relates to the others in time frame. If Post A started before Post B, and your character gets hurt in Post B, it shouldn't mysteriously become hurt in Post A. Also, try to be considerate...don't start 10 threads with one character if you aren't using another character at all or ignoring posts with someone else.

Lands, Love, and Chaos

1. Any eligible character can claim an unclaimed land. There can be multiple "groups" of the same species living within that land. Each group may establish a leader and pack ranking within the land. Just remember, if your dog decides to establish a pack in a land that already has a pack, they other pack may not take it too well.

2. To be eligible to officially claim a land, your character must have a group with at least two others. If you have a male dog, he must have two others in his pack. If you have a female horse, she must also have two others, of the same species. Males and females both have equal claiming rights.

3. The 'Free Land' boards are free for all. They may not be claimed, and anyone is free to roam there. Likewise, any unclaimed land is considered free land until the time it is claimed.

4. Once all claimable lands are taken, we may create more, or allow you to purchase them with your karma.

5. Fights can take place for any reason, though most commonly it's for control of land or females. Fights can take place between any species (horse vs. dog, dog vs. dog, etc) and any genders.

6. Our fighting policy is that each character makes 3 attacks, and each character is allowed 2 dodges and 1 hit. This means if you dodge the first two attacks, you must get hit by the 3rd. You can, however, take more than one hit, just not more than 2 dodges. You can also decide ahead of time with your fighting partner if you wish to extend the number of attacks.

7. Once the fight is over, two unbiased staff members will decide who the winner is based on the quality of the posts, realism of the fighting techniques, and slightly based on the actual traits of the character.

8. Rape is not allowed without consent from both parties, however you can force a female to join your group. IF both partners agree to a rape plot, you should not graphically roleplay it.

9. Breeding is allowed within season. Most animals breed during spring and summer, though some species may breed during other times. It is up to you to research the species and know when it is allowed for that species. Breeding can take place anywhere you wish, however it should not be graphic.

10. Birthing takes place in any season and relates directly to your character's gestation time. Again, it is your job to research this for your character and know how long they should carry their pregnancy.

11. You get to choose whether or not your character actually gets pregnant after a mating attempt. When it comes time for birthing, you should then go to that board, fill out the form, and we will tell you the results of the offspring. You can give us specific requests, but mostly we will try to keep it realistic and random.

12. If you decide its time for your character leave this world, you can come up with a plot to have them die or leave the island. Again, this should not be graphic, but there should be some explanation for why they randomly disappear. Don't just have them fall off the face of the earth!
