Ven darted across the steep hills with ease. His muscles rippling under his shining buckskin pelt. His brown eyes were closed as he felt the sun's rays hitting his black points, his jet black mane and tail rolled gently behind him. His ears twitched as he heard the sound of water rolling over grassy banks.
Slowing to a trot he opened his eyes, noting the small pond that sat before him. Sliding down wet grass on what was left of the hill, he soon reached the edge of the pond. Looking down into the water a face stared back at him, blinking blankly. Looking across the water he noticed the wind had stopped, making the pond look like glass.
Ven slowly dipped his muzzle into the water, making the reflection of himself shatter. Holding his breath he walked into the water, not taking a sip of water. He was instead testing if it was warm from the sun. Feeling it's warmth he went farther and farther, until his hooves no longer could feel the land beneath him, only water.
Tilting his head back slightly he swam toward the middle, his eyes closing again as he relaxed. How could I, He wondered, How could I be so relaxed? I have no idea where I am... Letting out a low bellow he darted beneath the surface of the water. As it held him in it's grasp he actually felt... safe.
Floating under the water for a few seconds he felt like he never needed to breath, like his life was just a nightmare, and he couldn't wake up. 'But I am the wind, I need to feel safe running through meadows. I need... I need.' Searching for the words his eye flickered open, 'I need air! I can't breath!'
Rising to the top of the water he gasped for air, had he really tried to breath underwater? Swiftly he launched himself toward land, still coughing up tons of water. 'Maybe...' He stared at the distant hills, 'Maybe I do need a human to help me survive.' Though Ven had to survive on his own seconds after he was born, maybe now was the time to get a human's help.
