Loyalty. Loyalty is Anubis' strongest trait. Even though his trust has been marred, once won, his loyalty to an individual is eternal. This loyalty is what drives him, he needs it to feel totally complete. He isn't the type that can simply wander and float around from one place to the next, he needs a purpose in life. He will fiercely protect those he is loyal to, even willing to sacrifice his own life for another. He is protective, sometimes overly so, but is willing to go to great lengths to ensure the safety of the ones he cares for. Despite all of these traits, Anubis is rather naive when it comes to the "free" life. He has always been owned in some way or another so living on his own and providing for himself is not at the top of his list of skills, but he is a fast learner so it shouldn't take him too long to learn to survive. Also, with his loyalty he can sometimes be blind to any faults that individual has. He overlooks things, and tends to just see what he wants out of a certain situation.
SOUL.

Anubis was bred and raised to be a police working dog, and when he was still a puppy was gifted to a small county police department. He was trained as any other working dog was, in tracking, obedience and protection and it was there that the major aspects of his personality were shaped. He did well in his tracking training, but never excelled at it but where he did his best work was in protection. He loved his handler and would do anything for the man. Working for almost four years for the department as a valuable K9 unit acting more in the protection and suspect apprehension fields, Anubis was well known through the community and had received several commendations for his service. But it was this local fame that led Anubis into trouble. In the middle of the night, the police kennels were broken into and several dogs were stolen, but the thief's goal had been Anubis. He passed through several hands quickly after that and ended up in the possession of a dog fighting ring.
There was a problem with this, even with his training to attack he wasn't a fighter. Anubis didn't want to fight, that isn't what he believed. He didn't enjoy violence for the sake of violence, but he was willing to fight for a cause which he just didn't see in the brutal "sport". Anubis withstood nearly six months of being beaten, starved and otherwise abused to get him to fight before he finally snapped. Yet, he didn't take out his pent up anger on the other dogs. He quickly turned on his handler at the time. Half-crazed, Anubis was able to take the man down, but instead of stopping when he brought the man down, he continued his attack killing his tormentor before running. Running until his body could no longer take the strain of his pace, Anubis found himself in yet another new, unknown place with no link to anything he knew. He was un-owned, a stray, and completely lost at how to survive. For the first time in his life he didn't know where his next meal would be coming from. Sure as a fighter, he never knew when or how much he would eat, but the man who he had killed was always the one who would bring it.
This uncertainty was his downfall. Anubis didn't know that as a stray he should now avoid humans, the sole providers of his past, and happily found the first human he could. However, his story wasn't destined to have a happy ending. He was captured as any stray dog would be, and was placed in an animal control facility. Unfortunately, this place, with its crowded cages and scents of fear and desperation reminded Anubis of one place. The fighting ring. This reflected into his personality, and he would lash out at any that happened by his cage, expecting to be struck or beat in some way. It didn't take long for the humans running the shelter to decide he would be better off to be euthanized. No one would want an animal as violent as him, or if they did it would be for inhumane purposes. Yet, an offer came to send Anubis to a "special facility" as a way to help the shelters reduce how many animals had to be put down. There were no real questions asked, and before long Anubis was on a ship heading for Gershom. This was one more new experience for the canine, but now he finds himself on a deserted island, truly alone for the first time in his life. It is up to him to step up and learn to survive, or fall victim to "The Wild".
